Christmas Walk 1
Gloucestershire: Broadway and the Tower
Take an enchanting walk through the picturesque Cotswold high street of Broadway, along historic tracks and up to the intriguing Broadway Tower with its spectacular views across the Severn Vale into Wales.
Distance: 4 miles
Difficulty: Moderate, some steep sections and stiles
Christmas Walk 2
Dorset: Lulworth Cove and the Fossil Forest
Good for children and for dogs, take a walk around the shingle beach of Lulworth Cove and up into Dorset’s dramatic Fossil Forest (the petrified remains of a cypress forest which grew in a swamp in the Jurassic period). Along the way you pass a pub where dogs are welcome.
Distance: 2.2 miles
Difficulty: A relatively short walk across a beach and uneven ground with an
optional steep hill
Christmas Walk 3
Northumberland: Lindisfarne Castle and Holy Island
The best way to experience the tranquility of Holy Island in Northumberland is with an easy circular walk. Along the way you’ll see the dramatic 16th-century Lindifarne Castle, the beautiful walled castle garden, the nearby lime kilns, as well as the atmospheir ruins of the ancient Lindisfarne Priory. But do remember: Holy Island is cut off from the mainland at high tide so careful planning is required before going.
Distance: 4.3 miles
Difficulty: Easy to moderate, with some walking at height
Christmas Walk 4
Sussex: Devil’s Dyke and the South Downs
Devil's Dyke is a 100m deep V-shaped valley on the South Downs Way in Southern England, near Brighton and Hove. From here there are many walks you can do along dedicated trails taking in some of the finest views in the whole of Sussex. We like the route that starts and ends at the Devil’s Dyke pub.
Distance: 2.5 miles
Difficulty: Moderate, rural trail
Christmas Walk 5
Cumbria: Blea Tarn and Coniston
Blea Tarn is a small tarn at the head of the Little Langdale valley in the Lake District. There’s an easy, picturesque trail that runs around the tarn ideal for all ages to enjoy at any time of the year, including Christmas - and a car park just across from the start of the route. Expect beautiful views of Lingmoor and Pike of Blisco, as well as the other surrounding Langdale fells.
Distance: 1.8 miles
Difficulty: Easy trail with moderate undulation
