Camping in the UK is becoming more popular – families looking for a less expensive alternative to expensive holidays abroad are turning to camping holidays to fit in with school holidays.  A family camping trip is an excellent way to get everyone out into the fresh air and with Attwoolls’ help, you can head out into the great outdoors fully equipped, with one of our wonderful range of family tents – all available to buy at our Whitminster store or online.

Our family camping tents include family dome tents, large family tents sleeping 7+ and with popular brands such as Outwell, Vango and Coleman, you can be sure that we have a family tent to suit you.

Before deciding on the perfect family tent, make sure you know how many people your tent can sleep, and how much space you will need to have everyone feeling comfortable. It’s a good idea to choose a tent with more berths (sleeping areas) than you need, as this gives everyone plenty of room and allows for even more storage space – you can never have too much! You will need to be able to store clothing, provisions etc…, as well as coats and boots.

Family tents should be light and easy to pack away so you can spend time enjoying your holiday with your family. Tents with high-pressure frames are best for this, as they are lightweight while staying study, no matter what the British weather throws at you.

A great example of this is the Kampa Croyde 6 Air, a tent that offers plenty of space. It allows you to incorporate the front of the tent into the main living area or divide it off to create another room – perfect if you want some privacy or if you need an extra room for provisions or to dry out wet clothing.

However, if you are worried about the weight of a large tent and difficulties involved when it comes to pitching it, consider a smaller tent such the Robens Mescalero. Although it can sleep up to 10 people, its classic tipi design keeps it compact. Made from breathable polycotton fabric, it’s lightweight but strong and secure.

For small families that want something quick and easy to maintain, consider a simple and straightforward tent such as the Coleman Bering 4 tent. This clever tent avoids feeling too small by having two sleeping areas at either side of the tent, with a living compartment in the centre – perfect for those who want a little privacy. Best of all, dome tents like this are incredibly easy to pitch thanks to their simple structure and ring and pin pole attachment.

Most people choosing a tent for the family will choose a tent with extra berths, which is a great idea.  This may be to allow children their own room, or to allow for clothing and equipment.  Don’t forget though, if you choose a large tent, it will generally take more work to erect, take up more space in the car, and if it’s really large, may cost you more in pitch fees, so try to strike a balance.

Some large tents are heavy so please make sure you’re happy with lifting and carrying the tent you like.  And, REMEMBER – it may come in several bags, so don't forget to take them all with you when you go camping.

No matter what your needs are, our excellent range of family tents cover all the bases, so you are sure to find your perfect tent with us.
